Our Story

Cloudy Mountain Cheese was established in 2007 by Cathy and Peter Lang. As one of New Zealands smallest registered artisan cheese producers, they take great pride in producing an exciting range of genuinely handcrafted cheeses that have a recieved both local and international awards.

Cloudy Mountain specialises in producing soft to semi-soft European sytle cheeses that stand out from the everyday fare. Produced in small batches, our handcrafted cheeses are true induviduals that reflect the craftmanship of the cheese maker and the variation of the seasons.

Due to its size, Cloudy Mountain Cheese is a genuine '100% local' cheese producer. Our cheeses are only available for sale in the Waikato area at NZFMA approved Farmers markets and from our outlet shop in Pirongia.


Handcrafted/Artisan Cheesemaking
Cathy’s method of cheese production is based on traditional farmhouse methods. Milk is gently pasteurized and from this point right up to the wrapping of each individually matured cheese; Cathy’s methods are strictly hands on. The result is beautiful, delicious and rustic cheese that is truly artisan.

All cheeses produced for commercial sale are required by law to be made from pasteurized milk.

Cathy uses non-animal rennet in all of her cheeses.

No additional stabilizers other than salt are added to the cheeses.
